## 1. Roadmap Overview

The purpose of this document is to divide the development of the **School Management Website** into sequential, logical modules and phases. It maps out the foundational structure, confirmed core operations (CRUD), directory search/filtering, and usability recommendations, establishing clear dependencies and execution sequence aligned with the project scope.

### High-Level Module Progression

```
Phase 1: Base Setup & Data Structure
   └── Phase 2: Core Student Management (CRUD)
          └── Phase 3: Directory Search & Filtering
                 └── Phase 4: Usability Enhancements (Pending AI Recommendations)
                        └── Phase 5: Verification & Documentation
## 2. Development Phases & Modules
### Phase 1: Base Setup & Data Structure
*Objective: Set up the project foundation, administrative layout shell, and student data storage schema.*
* **Module 1.1: Project Initialization**
  * Set up the base project repository, structure, and baseline configuration.
  * *Status:* Foundation.
  * *(Execution details depend on Open Question: Technology Stack selection).*
* **Module 1.2: Student Data Schema & Storage**
  * Define the data schema for the confirmed student fields:
    * `name`
    * `email`
    * `phone`
    * `course`
    * `admission_date`
  * *[Pending AI Recommendation]:* Include system-managed fields (`id`, `created_at`, `updated_at`).
  * Set up database tables/migrations and local data connection.
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.1.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirements (with optional recommended fields).
* **Module 1.3: Admin Layout Shell**
  * Create the base administrative container, page structure, and layout.
  * *(Execution details depend on Open Question: Admin Authentication requirement vs. direct environment access).*
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.1.
  * *Status:* Foundation / Pending Decision.
---
### Phase 2: Core Student Management (CRUD)
*Objective: Implement the confirmed administrative operations to view, create, edit, and delete student records.*
* **Module 2.1: View Student Directory (Read)**
  * Build the directory table displaying all existing student records with their confirmed fields (`name`, `email`, `phone`, `course`, `admission_date`).
  * Implement retrieval query logic to fetch student records from storage.
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.2.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement (CF-02).
* **Module 2.2: Add Student (Create)**
  * Build the student creation form with the required fields: `name`, `email`, `phone`, `course`, `admission_date`.
  * Implement backend persistence logic to store newly submitted records.
  * *(Execution details depend on Open Question: Course input method — free text vs. dropdown).*
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.2.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement (CF-01).
* **Module 2.3: Edit Student (Update)**
  * Build the edit interface pre-populated with existing student data.
  * Implement backend update logic to modify and save updated record values.
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.2, Module 2.1.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement (CF-03).
* **Module 2.4: Delete Student (Delete)**
  * Implement record deletion logic to remove a selected student record.
  * *(Execution details depend on Open Question: Hard delete vs. soft delete).*
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.2, Module 2.1.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement (CF-04).
---
### Phase 3: Directory Search & Filtering
*Objective: Implement search and filtering tools for fast retrieval and organization of student records.*
* **Module 3.1: Directory Search**
  * Implement a search input bar on the student directory view.
  * Implement backend query logic to return matching student records based on search keywords.
  * *(Search scope target depends on Open Question / Pending AI Recommendation: searching across `name`, `email`, and `phone`).*
  * *Dependency:* Module 2.1.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement (CF-05).
* **Module 3.2: Directory Filtering**
  * Implement filter controls on the student directory interface.
  * Implement backend query logic to narrow records by specified criteria.
  * *(Filter scope target depends on Open Question / Pending AI Recommendation: filtering by `course` and `admission_date`).*
  * *Dependency:* Module 2.1.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement (CF-06).
* **Module 3.3: Combined Query Handling**
  * Coordinate search and filter logic so results can be filtered and searched simultaneously without state conflicts.
  * *Dependency:* Module 3.1, Module 3.2.
  * *Status:* Confirmed Requirement.
---
### Phase 4: Usability Enhancements (Pending AI Recommendations)
*Objective: Implement usability improvements, safety prompts, and validations if approved.*
* **Module 4.1: Input Validation & Date Formatting [Pending AI Recommendation]**
  * Add client-side and server-side validation rules for `email`, `phone`, and a standard date picker for `admission_date`.
  * *Dependency:* Module 2.2, Module 2.3.
  * *Status:* Pending AI Recommendation (REC-02).
* **Module 4.2: Delete Confirmation Prompt [Pending AI Recommendation]**
  * Introduce a confirmation modal or prompt before executing record deletion to prevent unintended data loss.
  * *Dependency:* Module 2.4.
  * *Status:* Pending AI Recommendation (REC-01).
* **Module 4.3: Pagination Controls [Pending AI Recommendation]**
  * Display directory records across manageable pages (e.g., 10 or 25 records per page) with page navigation controls.
  * *Dependency:* Module 2.1, Module 3.3.
  * *Status:* Pending AI Recommendation (REC-03).
* **Module 4.4: Reset Filters Action [Pending AI Recommendation]**
  * Add a clear/reset action to restore the directory list to its default view in a single click.
  * *Dependency:* Module 3.3.
  * *Status:* Pending AI Recommendation (REC-04).
---
### Phase 5: Verification & Documentation
*Objective: Validate functionality against confirmed requirements and prepare setup documentation.*
* **Module 5.1: Functional Verification**
  * Execute end-to-end verification of all CRUD flows (Add, View, Edit, Delete).
  * Validate search and filter query accuracy across empty, single-match, and multi-match cases.
  * *Dependency:* Phase 2 and Phase 3 modules (and Phase 4 if approved).
  * *Status:* Verification.
* **Module 5.2: Setup Documentation**
  * Create a practical `README.md` containing database setup instructions, local run commands, and environment requirements.
  * *Dependency:* Module 1.1, Module 5.1.
  * *Status:* Project Deliverable.
*(Note: Production deployment assistance is a future post-development deliverable and not an active development phase within this roadmap).*
## 4. Open Questions & Roadmap Impact
The following architectural decisions remain unresolved and must be addressed before or during their respective stages:
1. **Technology Stack Selection (Affects Module 1.1):**
   * *Status:* Open Decision.
   * Framework and database choices remain open. The development flow adapts based on whether a monolithic framework or a separated frontend/API approach is chosen.
2. **Admin Authentication (Affects Module 1.3):**
   * *Status:* Open Decision.
   * If a login screen is required, an authentication gate must be built prior to displaying student data. If direct network access is used, Module 1.3 only delivers the visual layout frame.
3. **Course Input Method (Affects Module 2.2 & 3.2):**
   * *Status:* Open Decision.
   * If courses are free text, input is a standard text input field. If courses are predefined, a static list or select dropdown will be integrated.
4. **Deletion Strategy (Affects Module 2.4):**
   * *Status:* Open Decision.
   * Hard Delete permanently removes the record from storage. Soft Delete requires an active/deleted status column in the data schema.
5. **Search & Filter Target Fields (Affects Module 3.1 & 3.2):**
   * *Status:* Pending Decision / AI Recommendation.
   * Explicit match fields (e.g., search across `name`, `email`, `phone`; filter by `course` and `admission_date`) require user approval.
